After over 15 years in the music business, Matt has released 11 studio albums, made various radio and television appearances, won over 10 provincial talent competitions, and performed in concert with Grand Ole Opry star Larry Gatlin, Canadian country music legend Carroll Baker and many other Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame inductees. Proving to be versatile, his country and southern gospel music is played on radio throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, and Australia.

Matt was born in Coldbrook, Nova Scotia and became interested in music at a very young age. He started singing in his local church at the age of four. Since his country music debut, Matt has been, and still is, dedicated to sustaining country music in Nova Scotia and beyond. Part of this dedication was shown by his involvement with the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame as Vice President.

Matt has a BIG voice and says he has been inspired by Southern Gospel legend Vestal Goodman and the King of Country Music George Jones. His emotional song delivery and his strong use of diction and phrasing are often commented on. Like Vestal, he is known for his dynamic song endings ("grab a note and hang on endings").

In September of 2013, Matt released a tribute album entitled "Remembering George Jones". He shares his thoughts of the possum in the following excerpt: In country music, no voice is more distinctive and no name more respected than George Jones! With a chilling voice, he had a unique style unmatched by anyone, allowing him to touch an emotion like few other people in the business have ever touched. If you’ve ever had your heart broken, or cheated, or been cheated on, or just had to deal with one of life’s bad patches, you know that when you hear George Jones sing, he knows just how you feel. He was and always will be an inspiration to every country singer to ever truly sing a country song. It’s often been said by other country singers, “If we all could sound like we wanted to, we'd all sound like George Jones.” The voice of George Jones is a beautiful gift to the world and will always bring back memories to us all!

"Back To The Cross" was released in early 2013 - Matt's first solo gospel album since 2011. This CD includes some of Matt's favourite performance songs from years prior along with seven new tracks.

In January of 2013, Matt decided to retire his band from the dance scene and focus his energy on singing country and gospel music in concert settings.

In the fall of 2012, Matt revived a southern gospel group called The Glorylanders. The new trio consists of two original members of The Glorylanders - Graham Moorehead and Heather Wood (Graham's sister). It has been 40 years since The Glorylanders released their first and only album. In October of 2012, the new trio released their first recording entitled "A Tribute To The Happy Goodmans". The trio has been inspired by the unique sound and style of the Goodmans (especially Vestal Goodman) and are honoured to be able to pay tribute to and sing some of the most powerful songs in southern gospel music history. The Glorylanders were nominated for Gospel Trio of the Year by the Maritime Gospel Music Association in 2013.

The biggest recording of Matt's career to date was released in July of 2012. Matt Balsor & Friends - "Duets" is a 26 song recording featuring duets with 25 different singers that Matt has performed with over the years as well vocalists who have earned his respect for what they've done for country music in Nova Scotia and beyond. You will hear all your local favourites singing timeless classics with Matt. This album truly captures how much musical talent we have here in Nova Scotia. "Something of this magnitude has never been done before, at least in Canada", Matt said. "I am delighted that I was able to coordinate and co-produce something that will become a long-lasting piece of music history here in Nova Scotia."

The Duets recording made its way to Germany and caught the attention of a country music publicist who is responsible for writing international country music encyclopedias. Matt was selected as one of the artists from Nova Scotia to be featured in a Canadian edition released in 2014. One article features Matt's career and the other is a review of the Duets album. An article was also published in September 2013 in the country music magazine in Germany. The author describes the Duet CD by saying, "The album offers a variety of different and distinguished voices with Matt's singing being an ideal guideline."

In January of 2012, Matt had to re-structure his band. With some different musicians, Keepin' Country was formed. George Daine, Graham Moorehead, and Bob MacAulay joined Matt in this new stage of his career.

"Old Memories" was released in July of 2011. With the music recorded in Seymour, Tennessee, Matt really captured the essence of traditional country music. As the listener makes his or her way through the tracks, each song speaks to the powerful experiences of loving and losing. "She's Too Good To Be True" was released to international radio with Bon Tex Records earning Matt a TOP 50 HIT on the CMP International Chart. The single also reached #1 on the APD Global Charts. Matt was named one of the top 250 International Country Music Artists in 2011 by the European Country Music Association.

Not only did Matt manage to record and release "Old Memories" in 2011, he also released a new southern gospel album. Becoming known more so for his gospel singing, "What Heaven Means To Me" was recorded in Hendersonville and Nashville Tennessee and released in June of 2011. With this CD, Matt worked to pick songs that reflected his thoughts on what Heaven means to him. Singing from the heart, he shares his journey of faith with the world in a powerful and dynamic way. Matt shares, "I don't think singing country music is wrong; but, I just want to make what I am doing count." Joining Matt on this CD is well-known Nova Scotia singer Graham Moorehead.

Matt's previous three albums have all made their way across Canada, through the United States, and even overseas. His first recording, "A New Generation", was released in 2008 and was the start of a large shift in his musical life. After having a successful number of years as a solo artist, Matt became the lead vocalist of Straight Out in 2008. Along with Matt, the band was composed of Justin Bruce, Graham Moorehead, and Dale McKay. Straight Out was a popular country/country rock band that performed regularly in concert settings and dances throughout Nova Scotia.

"Keepin' Country Alive", a composition of classic country songs, was released by Matt in 2009. With the success of this recording, Matt decided to record and co-produce a southern gospel album that took his country music supporters on a journey into the spiritual life of this entertainer. "Heaven Bound" was released in June of 2010 and was featured on Matt's 2010-2011 tour.

Matt reflects on this music scene when he says, "The country music scene is constantly changing; but, I've remained the same - true to the classic, heart-wrenching country sound. No matter what I sing, it comes out sounding country, and that is perfectly fine with me! I know who I am and that will never change."

"The most important aspect of being an entertainer is connecting with your supporters on and off the stage. I am thankful for my family and friends who continue to be patient with me and supportive of my music. Without the great people I have met over the years, I would not be where I am today. I love you all!"
